MES in Mirandola

By | News | No Comments

Last month Seabrook were delighted to present on the ‘Benefits of Paperless Manufacturing to Medical Device Manufacturers’ at Mirandola’s MOBIMED Technical Happy Hour.

MOBIMED is a museum with a permanent exhibition of the Mirandola biomedical district. It tells the history of the Mirandola biomedical cluster from 1962 until the present day. MOBIMED Technical Happy Hour series has been running for several years and is organized by the Director of MOBIMED, Paolo Poggioli.

The attendees, which included representatives from companies the likes of Sorin Group, Eurosets and Biascon, learnt about the true benefits of paperless manufacturing. The presentation spoke on how a true Manufatcuring Execution System provides greater operational flexibility, greater efficiency & productivity while increasing security & compliance, and more.

Mirandola is located in the Province of Modena, Italy, and is home to several medical device manufacturers including Fresenius Medical, Baxter Gambro, BTC Medical and Medica. In May 2012, a powerful earthquake hit the Mirandola area. It killed at least 17 people and collapsed churches and factories. 200 were injured. The 5.8 magnitude quake left 14,000 people homeless. The resilience of the locals is obvious in Mirandola. Huge restoration initiatives are evident in the busy town centre of this medical device manufacturing hub.

After the presentation the group discussed several topics including how fully Integrated eDHRs replace all shop floor interactions which means no ‘Paper Travelers’, no Manuals, no Drawings, etc.  All this means that there are no opportunities for error on the factory floor. MES operates in real time to enable the control of multiple elements of the production process. This was of particular interest to group and generated a lot of discussion.
Seabrook thank MOBIMED and Paolo for the opportunity to speak on the benefits surrounding MES and we look forward to returning to the region in the near future!

For me, the new office symbolizes the success we are having at Seabrook. We are overwhelmed with the welcome we have received here in California.

Speaking at the office opening celebrations the Mayor of Dublin expressed his appreciation to the Seabrook Team for choosing Dublin as the location for the new office. Hats off to University College Cork Graduates

By | News | No Comments

University College Cork’s MBS ISBP (Information Systems for Business Performance) was established in 2007 and outperforms other courses in its category through its integration of core business and IT-skills, application of theory to practice, leveraging industrial partnerships and development of transferable business communication skills. As a conversion course, students across different disciplines acquire skills in applied problem-solving, building, managing and leveraging IT for organizations in roles such as analysts, programmers and managers.

This year Seabrook were delighted to be involved with the MBS ISBP Group as mentors to a group of students from the University program. Seabrook has a strong relationship with University College Cork for many years; several members of our team are UCC Graduates and I was honoured to Chair the Advisory Board for Business Information Systems for the past ten years.

I would like to congratulate this group of students who received the highest possible grade for their project. Seabrook’s William O’Sullivan, Director & Senior Consultant, and Ian Foley, Marketing Executive North America and Europe, mentored the group.

For four months the group worked on a project and created a detailed report that highlights the functionalities of mobile manufacturing execution systems (MES) and how it can impact organizational efficiency within a company. As pioneers of research in the area of mobile MES, the group produced a valuable document for further research on the topic. This report is of significant interest to those companies in the manufacturing sector who are considering using such mobile devices in their own companies. The report outlines the value of mobile MES and demonstrates how this innovative platform can be leveraged to bring major benefit to manufacturers.

Several Cork based manufacturing multinationals including EMC and Stryker Neurovascular hosted site visits for the ISBP Group and this provided very valuable experience to the students.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Course Coordinator, Dr. Karen Neville, and the student’s Academic Mentor, Dr. Rob Gleasure, for their part in this project and for giving our team the opportunity to further strengthen Seabrook’s relationship with University College Cork.
